"Power Surge On Hub Port" error message
Question: Why do I receive an error message when I connect my DT9837 to my laptop PC?
Answer:
(2.) After replacing your current DT9837 files with the updated files, please reboot your system and try operating again. After performing step (2.), if you continue to experience a problem you can try adding a shutdown delay (described in step (3.)) or you can try keeping the device always powered on (described in step (4.)).
(3.) To add an additional shutdown delay, create a new registry key as follows:
(3.1) Click Start/Run…
(3.2) Type "regedit" then click OK
(3.3) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DT9837K
(3.4) Click Edit/New/Key
(3.5) Type "Parameters", then click Enter.
(3.6) Click Edit/New/DWORD
(3.7) Type "ShutdownDelayInMsecs", then click Enter.
(3.8) Click Edit/Modify
(3.9) Click Decimal
(3.10) Enter the delay time (in milliseconds) in the "Value data:" text box, then click OK. For example, if you enter 200, a delay of 200 milliseconds (which is the default shutdown delay) will occur during driver shutdown. You can keep increasing this value until the "Power Surge On Hub Port" error does not occur. Note: typical values for the delay are from 200 to 10000. Above 10000 minimal benefits will be gained.
(4.) To keep device always powered on, create a new registry key as follows:
(4.1) Click Start/Run…
(4.2) Type "regedit" then click OK
(4.3) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DT9837K
(4.4) Click Edit/New/Key
(4.5) If you have not already created a Parameters key from step (3.5) above, type "Parameters", then click Enter.
(4.6) Click Edit/New/DWORD
(4.7) Type "DontPowerDown", then click Enter.
(4.8) Click Edit/Modify
(4.9) Click Decimal
(4.10) Enter 1 in the "Value data:" text box, then click OK. This will make the DT9837 remain powered on all the time. If you enter a 0 in the text box, the device will be powered down when the device is closed. Note: keeping the DT9837 always powered on will reduce the possibility of receiving a "Power Surge On Hub Port" error, however battery power will be diminished.
If after performing the above steps the issue still occurs, try using a powered USB hub.
