Knowledge Base - Glossary of Terms
Glossary is usually defined as an alphabetical list of technical terms in some specialized field of knowledge. This knowledge base glossary provides a collection of knowledge base documents that define many technical terms. Backplane
Electrical connection common to all segments of an LCD.

Bandpass Filter
A type of filter that allows a band of frequencies between two set frequencies to pass while attenuating all signal frequencies outside the bandpass range.

Bar Code
1. An identification system that employees a series machine-readable lines varying widths of black and white. 2. An identification system that employs a matrix of black and white squares. Contains considerably more information than a traditional bar code.

Bartlett Window
Triangular window.

Base Address
A memory or I-O address that serves as a point of reference. All other points are located by offsetting (adding to or subtracting from) in relation to the base address.

BASIC
The most common computer language, BASIC is an acronym for Beginner's All Purpose Symbolic Instruction Code. Relies on English-like instructions which accounts for its popularity and ease of learning.

Bidirectional Data Line
Term used when a data line functions as either an input or an output line depending on the states of the enable inputs.

Binary Coded Decimal
A code for representing decimal digits in a binary format.

Binary Counter
Group of flip-flops connected in a special arrangement in which the states of the flip-flops represent the binary number equivalent to the number of pulses that have occurred.

Binary Image
A black and white image represented as a single bit containing zeros and ones, in which objects appear as silhouettes. It is the result of thresholding.
