| Analog-to-Digital Conversation The process of changing an analog signal into a digital value that represents the magnitude of the signal at the moment of conversation. Analog-to-Digital Converter An electronic device, often an integrated circuit, that produces a digital ouput directly proportional to an analog signal input. Antialiasing Filter A filter that removes frequencies from a signal that are higher than the cutoff frequency. When the sample rate is more than twice the cut-off frequency this filter prevents aliasing, in which low frequencies, that did not exist, appear in data after it is digitized (converted to digital) by a data acquisition device. This filter must be implemented in hardware in front of the A/D converter. API Application Programming Interface Apparent Mass An FRF mode that is calculated as the Force of the Reference Channel/Acceleration of the
Response Channel. It is the reciprocal function of Inertance. Arithmetic-Logic Unit (ALU) Digital circuit used in computers to perform various arithmetic and logic operations. Array Data arranged in single or multidimensional rows and columns. ASCII American Standard Code for Information Interchange. A very popular standard method of encoding alphanumeric characters into seven or nine binary bits. Aspect Ratio The width-to-height ratio of a video picture. An aspect ratio of 4:3 means the horizontal dimension of the image frame is 4/3 the vertical dimension. Assembler A program that converts a list of computer instructions written in a specific assembly-language format into binary instructions that can be executed by a specific processor. |
