| Digital to Analog Conversion The process of changing discrete data into a continuously varying signal. Common uses are to present the output of a digital computer as a graphic display or as a test stimulus. Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) A device that converts digital information into a corresponding analog voltage or current. Digitization Process by which an analog signal is converted to digital data. DIP Dual-in-line package. The most common type of IC package. DIP Switch A set of switches contained in a dual inline package. Direct Memory Access (DMA) A method by which information can be transferred from the computer memory to a device on the bus while the processor does something else. Also on of two methods for transferring data acquisition system measurements to computer memory, (the other method being programmed I/O). DOS Disk Operating System Double Integration Double integration results in displacement (the engineering units change and are denoted
with “~~”). Down Counter Counter that counts from a maximum count downward to zero. Driver Part of the software that is used to control a specific hardware device such as a data acquisition board or a printer. |
